Landmark Study

The Landmark Study examines mental health, respect and safety in Western Australia’s mining industry. It uses worker surveys and interviews to understand workers’ experiences and challenges. The study also identifies ways to improve workplace wellbeing, culture and safety.

The study focuses on three key areas. First, it creates mentally healthy workplaces by managing psychosocial hazards and promoting positive work practices. Second, it builds cultures supporting safety, respect, inclusion and gender equity. Third, it prepares workplaces for safety challenges linked to innovation, automation and artificial intelligence. Using a structured research approach, the initiative gathers evidence to inform industry-wide understanding and decision making.

The Landmark Study uses multiple research methods: literature reviews, industry mapping, policy analysis, worker listening sessions and employee surveys. It gathers evidence from organisations, workers and stakeholders to pinpoint strengths and areas for improvement in the mining sector. The findings clarify factors that affect workplace health, safety and culture, helping organisations make informed decisions about workforce wellbeing and performance.

Centre for Transformative Work Design

The Centre for Transformative Work Design (CTWD) is a research centre based at Curtin University. It focuses on understanding how work design influences workers’ health, wellbeing and productivity. The centre brings together organisational psychology researchers and professionals. Together, they conduct independent, innovative and high-quality research aimed at improving work for individuals, organisations and society. CTWD’s vision is to transform work through better work design. This creates healthier lives for workers and stronger outcomes for organisations.

The centre investigates factors that foster healthy, productive work environments. Its research covers future work challenges, workplace wellbeing, organisational performance, learning and development and participation. By analysing how factors such as workload, autonomy, social connection and task design shape outcomes, CTWD enables organisations to increase staff engagement, unlock innovation, retain talent and achieve long-term success through effective work design.

In addition to research, CTWD develops practical resources, training, and collaborative initiatives that support informed decision making. These offerings help organisations enhance employee engagement, increase productivity and foster healthier workplaces. The centre shares knowledge with educators, researchers, managers, workers and the community, translating research into tools that improve wellbeing and performance. Committed to evidence-based practice, CTWD advances understanding and the application of effective work design across industries and sectors.
