Suicide Prevention Australia has released the MARS Program–funded Suicide Prevention Competency Framework for the Mining Industry in Western Australia, a targeted initiative designed to address the sector’s disproportionately high suicide rate.
The framework provides a practical, evidence-informed roadmap to help mining workplaces recognise and respond to suicidal distress, strengthen protective factors and reduce risk across the industry. It establishes a clear minimum standard of suicide prevention knowledge, skills and capabilities for people working in the sector, embedding mental health and suicide prevention as core components of workplace safety.
To support the rollout, Suicide Prevention Australia has developed five free introductory e-modules on its Learnlinc platform. These e-modules are available to anyone connected with the WA mining industry throughout 2026. Additionally, 150 Learnlinc licences are available for WA mining organisations. These licences provide access to the framework, e-modules and more than 200 suicide prevention resources.
