Psychosocial Risk Management: Capability Enhancement
The Psychosocial Risk Management: Capability Enhancement program, developed by FIFO Focus, is a comprehensive training initiative designed to strengthen organisational capability in managing psychosocial hazards in mining workplaces. It responds to growing recognition of the importance of psychological health and safety at work, helping participants understand how workplace design, management practices and organisational factors can influence worker wellbeing. It equips participants with the knowledge and skills needed to identify and address psychosocial risks in a structured and effective way.
The program focuses on recognising psychosocial hazards, analysing risk and developing practical strategies to mitigate, control and measure their impact. It examines workplace factors such as poor supervisor support, excessive job demands, low role clarity, poor workplace relationships, organisational change, isolated work and traumatic events. Through a combination of education and practical application, the training helps participants understand how psychosocial hazards can contribute to stress, burnout, anxiety, depression and reduced workplace performance if left unmanaged, while strengthening their ability to respond effectively.
Delivered through an action-learning approach, the program encourages participants to apply their learning within their own organisations and build practical skills in psychosocial risk management. The training supports health and safety professionals, human resources practitioners and others responsible for identifying and managing psychosocial hazards. By strengthening capability, improving risk management practices and supporting compliance with psychological health and safety requirements, the program helps organisations create healthier, safer and more productive workplaces with greater confidence and consistency.
