Psychosocial Safety Climate (PSC) reflects how strongly an organisation prioritises and protects workers’ psychological health and wellbeing. This international research project is developing an evidence-based PSC Maturity Model to help organisations assess their psychosocial safety climate, benchmark performance, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. The model will provide a practical framework for building healthier, safer, and more supportive workplaces.

This report highlights the evaluation of the Workplace Bullying and Incivility Prevention toolkit, demonstrating its value in helping mining organisations prevent bullying and incivility through structured assessment, collaboration, and cultural improvement initiatives that support safer and more respectful workplaces.

Using one of the world’s largest mining exposure databases, this research examined the potential impact of recent changes to workplace exposure standards for welding fumes, diesel particulate matter, and respirable crystalline silica on compliance across the WA mining industry. The findings provide valuable insights to help industry understand and respond to evolving exposure requirements.

The MARS Centre study found that positive humour and banter help strengthen team belongingness, build resilience, and support better mental health outcomes across both FIFO mine sites and corporate workplaces. The findings highlight positive humour as a simple, low-cost way to reduce stress, improve wellbeing, and foster a safer, more supportive workplace culture.
